I have been around German Shepherds all my life. I really don't remember a time when there was not a German Shepherd in my life.  I founded Gableridge Kennel in 1996 with my husband Mark and we have our first litter in 1999.  We both love the breed and love working with dogs and dog people.  I have owner handled many of my own champions and trained all breeds of dogs in obedience, as well as given classes in all breed conformation show handling and clicker training.  I have been teaching dogs the basics of Barn Hunt for a couple of years and compete in Barn Hunt with my own dogs.

Our History:

In 1992 we purchased our first dog "Honni" (Tradar's Lucy Honey) from Tradar Kennel  with the objective of doing Obedience. Gail, at Tradar gently nudged us into the conformation ring and we were immediately hooked. Honni was not only a pretty girl, but a joy to train and show.

After about 8 years of showing and training we finally felt that we knew enough to think about having a litter of our own. Honni was unable to give us our first litter so we searched for a foundation bitch, and found "Senta" (Silverhill's Valley Girl)  in British Columbia at Silverhill Kennel.  Senta was a very special lady, a tribute to the breed and as a bonus a great producer. Senta traveled all the way to California to meet up with Am Ch. Rohans Glass Palace ROM and they produced for us our first wonderful litter. Senta gave us our first Canadian, American Champion, special friend and companion "Big Jake of Gableridge", Princess (Gableridges Lady Take a Chance) (father of MV Can. Ch. Gableridges Aragorn Elessar aka Strider) and Minnie (Gableridges Minnie Me).

Everyone who met Big Jake was struck by his presence and special style. In 2006 Big Jake appeared in the GSDCA Red Book ranked as the #11 top sire in AKC major point show tabulations.

Mark and I love dogs and enjoy sharing with dog people. In our spare time, we have given all breed show handling classes and other training to both adults and kids. For a few years, we were fortunate enough to provide classes to the Juniors in the Ottawa Junior Kennel club. We like to give something back to the dog community. We feel it is important to help newcomers to the show circuit by sharing our experiences and expertise. Our clients are great people and we all have alot of fun.

We built our kennel building in 2004 shortly after moving to our new location in Arnprior. We have nine indoor outdoor runs, with a separate whelping area and kitchen in the front of the building. The building is heated in the winter and air-conditioned in the Summer all with a new Geo-thermal Heating System which was installed in 2008.

We have learned a lot over the years and realize there is so much more to learn about this wonderful breed of dog. We worry a lot about the German Shepherd Breed and where it is going. We have over the years seen problem temperaments and poor health plague the breed. These are things which we have worked very hard to avoid and correct.

We take every opportunity to educate and inform the public of the wonderful qualities of the German Shepherd Dog. A well bred German Shepherd is intelligent, affectionate and loyal.

We support all of our puppy buyers for the life of their dogs.

Please browse the site and keep coming back, for updates. We would love to hear from you.
